I found a bug!

Awesome! We definitely need your help to make the game better. Please report any bugs or suggestions to feedback@musegames.com

Sorry for the issue and thanks so much!

I’m getting a lot of input lag.

The latest update of Unity, the game engine we use, causes input lag with Vulkan at fullscreen on some some machines. If you are experiencing these issues, you can try to:

  1. Turn off Vsync in Video Settings in game.
  2. Play in windowed mode

How Do I Play Multiplayer?

  1. Complete the tutorial.
  2. Purchase and equip a ladder.
  3. Start a multiplayer game by clicking "multiplayer" at the bottom of the map screen, then "create crew". Make it public, unlisted, or private.
  4. Pick a level and a loadout, and send the join code in the upper right to your friend.
  5. Your friends can enter that code via multiplayer > Join crew (in the "join code" field)
If you specified a password, have your friends enter that below the join code

I can’t join my friend’s match!

  1. In the multiplayer menu, please click on “Test NAT Type.” It would show your NAT Type as either Open, Moderate, Strict, or Blocked.
  2. If your NAT Type is Open, you should be able to play with anyone who’s not Blocked. This is the ideal network type, and you are good to go.
  3. If your NAT Type is Moderate, you can play with other Open/Moderate players, but not Strict/Blocked players. Changing your NAT Type to Open would improve connectivity:
    1. If you are behind double router (your ISP modem and another home router). Please try to either connect to your ISP modem directly, or set your home router into bridge mode (see https://support.google.com/wifi/answer/6240987).
    2. Ensure Embr is allowed by your computer’s firewall. If you’re using Windows Defender, open the Windows menu / Windows Administrative Tools / Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security. In “Inbound Rules,” please make sure “Embr” is Allowed.
    3. Please ensure UDP port 5055 is opened from your modem/router. You may need to find out how to do so for your router.
    4. Turn off any antivirus you have to see if that solves the problem.
  4. If your NAT Type is Strict, you can only play with other Open players. If you’re in this category, you may have trouble playing P2P multiplayer games.
    1. One common reason is related to your ISP (if it uses Carrier-Grade NAT). Please try not playing on a mobile network, and please try applying for a free static IP from your ISP.
    2. Set up your router for port forwarding, add a rule where UDP port 5055 traffic would be forwarded to your own computer. You may need to find out how to do so for your router.
  5. If your NAT Type is Blocked, your computer/firewall is blocking outgoing UDP traffic. You will not be able to play with other players, and Create Crew and Join Crew buttons would be disabled. To fix this issue:
    1. Please make sure outgoing UDP traffic to port 1234 and 5055 is unblocked.
  6. When you open Match List, hosts that you may have problems connecting to would have a warning icon.
  7. If you still cannot play with your friend even your NAT Types do not conflict, here are a few things that could help:
    1. Restart your router: Unplug the router and leave it unplugged for 5 minutes. Then, plug it back in and connect to the internet to check if this solved the problem.
    2. Restart Steam. Sometimes that’s all that is required!
    3. Make sure the game has downloaded properly. Right-click on the game in your game library, select Properties, go to the Local Files tab, and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
    4. Try opting out of Steam Beta.
    5. Disable or uninstall Hamachi or any VPN software that you have.
    6. Disable your antivirus software.

I'm seeing problems with keyboard input

Try launching the game with default option which uses DX11.

  1. Please make sure your graphics card driver is up to date.
  2. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers and selecting the Clean Install option (this may affect any custom settings you have setup for your graphics card)
  3. Please make sure that Windows is completely up-to-date and there are no updates waiting to be installed. Fully update Windows, then try again.
  4. Please check to see if you have MSI Afterburner or any other graphics card over-clocking or “boosting” software. If you do, try disabling or uninstalling it and try running the game.

If you’re just jumping into an open lobby with people you don’t know, you can make use of the text chat (default key T) as well as the Ping systems (default key R) to coordinate with your teammates. If you have any issues with your teammates online, don’t hesitate to send a message to abuse@musegames.com

How and where are save files stored?

Save files are stored separately for each Steam account. As long as you both use separate Steam accounts, your save files will be separate.

Save data is saved in the windows registry at "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Muse Games\FireProject".
Editing the registry is for advanced users only, and can cause system instability. Attempt at your own risk.

Embr is not what I’m looking for, how do I get a refund?

We don’t process people’s purchases directly, and we rely on Steam for that. For refunds and other transaction related issues, if you can go to: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithPurchase

You should be able to get Steam’s help or get a refund. Thanks very much!

I heard there are exclusive items, how do I get them?

Join the Embr Respondrs Steam group to get access to exclusive items!

You can find the group here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/EmbrRespondrs

Once you’ve joined the group, watch for announcements when the items are available!

How can I change my name in Embr?

Embr uses your Steam display name. Change your name through Steam to change it in-game:

      1. Click on “friends” at the top of your Steam client, then click “Edit Profile Name / Avatar”. Your profile settings page will open in Steam.
      2. Enter your desired name in the “Profile Name” field
      3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the green “save changes” button

Your new name will appear in Embr!

My friend just got me a copy of the game, and I want to jump in and play right away, can I skip the tutorial?

The tutorial is short, and we do want you to spend a few minutes to get your Respondr certification. We currently do require you to play through the tutorial. This way, you’d be able to deal with electricity, open safes, drop clients on trampolines from up high, vent gases, and learn to use the starter tools. It’ll help you and your friends make more money on your missions, which is what we are all about - to help you make money.

What does “Play Embr (Vulkan)” mean?

Vulkan is a graphics API that works slightly differently to the default graphics API that Embr uses (DX11). As a result, performance and stability may be slightly different. While we recommend most players to play with our default option, if you experience some graphics issues, you may try to play with Vulkan instead.

I can’t hit the Sign In button

  1. Make sure Steam is running on your computer, and the current signed-in Steam user has access to Embr. Restart Steam can sometimes be helpful.
  2. Disable your antivirus software and then launch the game again.
  3. Run Steam and Embr as admin.
  4. If it still doesn’t work, please send your player log to feedback@musegames.com

I don’t want to play as this old person? How do I change my character?

In the main menu, you can select profile, and change photo to switch your character. If you’re in a lobby currently, your character won’t update immediately.
