How Do I Play Multiplayer?

  1. Complete the tutorial.
  2. Purchase and equip a ladder.
  3. Start a multiplayer game by clicking "multiplayer" at the bottom of the map screen, then "create crew". Make it public, unlisted, or private.
  4. Pick a level and a loadout, and send the join code in the upper right to your friend.
  5. Your friends can enter that code via multiplayer > Join crew (in the "join code" field)
If you specified a password, have your friends enter that below the join code

I can’t join my friend’s match!

  1. Check your internet speed with any online speedtest, such as http://speedtest.net Good targets for minimum speeds are:
  2. Download: 3 Mbps, Upload 1Mbps, Ping Less than 150ms
  3. Restart your router: Unplug the router and leave it unplugged for 5 minutes. Then, plug it back in and connect to the internet to check if this solved the problem.
  4. Restart Steam. Sometimes that’s all that is required!
  5. Make sure the game has downloaded properly. Right-click on the game in your game library, select Properties, go to the Local Files tab, and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
  6. Try opting out of Steam Beta.
  7. Turn off any antivirus you have to see if that solves the problem
  8. Disable or uninstall Hamachi or any VPN software that you have.
  9. Update the firmware on your router.
  10. If you are using the Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20), you may need to change its settings. After opening the game, from the “Applications” tab of the Killer Network Manager, click on the Embr process. Switch the priority from 1 to either 2, 3, or 4.

If all of these options fail, you may wish to try port forwarding and use a direct IP connection. We only recommend this approach for advanced users, who have some experience with port forwarding and have permission and access to their router. Incorrectly configuring the router could cause permanent damage, loss of internet connection, and external network access for unauthorized third parties.

Carrier Grade NAT is not supported, this is often the case for 4G network. You will need to request a static IP address in order to host the game.

I still can't join my friend's match!

Here is an alternative method for connecting to another person's match:

      1. The hosting player sets up port forwarding for UDP external port 5055 to his machine (internal port 5055). (See this page for more info: https://www.wikihow.com/Set-Up-Port-Forwarding-on-a-Router)
      2. Have the host player open https://api.ipify.org/ to find out their public IP address.
      3. Then the client players can choose "Join Crew" / "Private Match", fill in hosting player's public IP address and optionally a password.

I'm seeing problems with keyboard input

Try launching the game with the "DX11" option at launch. This should solve issues related to input issues.

My game keeps crashing

Try launching the game with “Play Embr” or “Play Embr (DX11)”. You may find one of them is more stable for your hardware configuration.

Please send a log file, along with a description of what you were doing when the crash occurred, to feedback@musegames.com

You can find the log file for Embr here:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\Muse Games\FireProject\Player.log

I keep seeing large, jittery shapes all over the level!

This issue may occur when launching with the DX11 launch option on some hardware. Try launching the game with the default launch option “Play Embr”.

I am seeing black screen when I try to start the game, help!

  1. Please make sure your graphics card driver is up to date.
  2. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers and selecting the Clean Install option (this may affect any custom settings you have setup for your graphics card)
  3. Please make sure that Windows is completely up-to-date and there are no updates waiting to be installed. Fully update Windows, then try again.
  4. Please check to see if you have MSI Afterburner or any other graphics card over-clocking or “boosting” software. If you do, try disabling or uninstalling it and try running the game.
  5. Try temporarily disabling your antivirus or other security software and see if that allows the game to run.
  6. Try reinstalling your Steam client. Also delete everything from your Steam install directory except for steamapps and userdata folders.

Can I play offline?

You can play single-player offline.

Does this game have split-screen co-op?

Embr doesn’t support split-screen at this time.

Can I play over LAN?

You can join a multiplayer game on your LAN, even if you don’t have internet access.

Can my computer run Embr?

Our minimum and recommended specs are as follows:

Min:
64 Bit Processor and Windows OS
Intel i5-6600 Series @ 3.5 GHz / Intel i7-4760 @ 3 GHz / AMD Ryzen 5 2500 Series @ 3.6 GHz
8 GB System Memory (RAM)
Nvidia GTX 960
8GB Hard Drive Space

Recommended:
Intel i5 9600K @ 3.7 GHz
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
16 GB RAM
8GB Solid State Drive Space

I noticed that there’s no in-game voice chat, what alternatives are there?

If you are playing Embr with your friends, we recommend using a voice chat application such as Discord to stay in touch! You can also find people to play and chat with on our official Embr Discord at http://discord.gg/embr

If you’re just jumping into an open lobby with people you don’t know, you can make use of the text chat (default key T) as well as the Ping systems (default key R) to coordinate with your teammates. If you have any issues with your teammates online, don’t hesitate to send a message to abuse@musegames.com

How and where are save files stored?

Save files are stored separately for each Steam account. As long as you both use separate Steam accounts, your save files will be separate.

Save data is saved in the windows registry at "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Muse Games\FireProject".
Editing the registry is for advanced users only, and can cause system instability. Attempt at your own risk.

Embr is not what I’m looking for, how do I get a refund?

We don’t process people’s purchases directly, and we rely on Steam for that. For refunds and other transaction related issues, if you can go to: https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithPurchase

You should be able to get Steam’s help or get a refund. Thanks very much!

I heard there are exclusive items, how do I get them?

Join the Embr Respondrs Steam group to get access to exclusive items!

You can find the group here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/EmbrRespondrs

Once you’ve joined the group, watch for announcements when the items are available!

How can I change my name in Embr?

Embr uses your Steam display name. Change your name through Steam to change it in-game:

      1. Click on “friends” at the top of your Steam client, then click “Edit Profile Name / Avatar”. Your profile settings page will open in Steam.
      2. Enter your desired name in the “Profile Name” field
      3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the green “save changes” button

Your new name will appear in Embr!

My friend just got me a copy of the game, and I want to jump in and play right away, can I skip the tutorial?

The tutorial is short, and we do want you to spend a few minutes to get your Respondr certification. We currently do require you to play through the tutorial. This way, you’d be able to deal with electricity, open safes, drop clients on trampolines from up high, vent gases, and learn to use the starter tools. It’ll help you and your friends make more money on your missions, which is what we are all about - to help you make money.

What does “Play Embr (DX11)” mean?

DX11 is a graphics API that works slightly differently to the default graphics API that Embr uses, called Vulkan. As a result, performance and stability may be slightly different. We decided to use Vulkan by default since it has provided us better stability, and a very slight performance cost.

You can also setup a shortcut to launch with -force-vulkan or -force-d3d11

I can't start the tutorial/map screen is glitched

- Disable your antivirus software and then launch the game again.
- Run Steam and Embr as admin

I don’t want to play as this old person? How do I change my character?

In the main menu, you can select profile, and change photo to switch your character. If you’re in a lobby currently, your character won’t update immediately.
